Overview

Develop your cloud application skills with the London School of Emerging Technology (LSET). This instructor-led live online Java Serverless Developer course explores how to build and deploy event-driven, microservice-based applications on AWS using Java.

Live online training combines guided practical sessions, hands-on coding, assignments and project-based learning. Learners work with AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, DynamoDB and other AWS services to develop serverless applications.

What You Will Learn

  • Write, deploy and debug Java Lambda functions using Java 17/21.
  • Explore the Lambda execution lifecycle, cold starts and SnapStart optimisation.
  • Build REST and HTTP APIs with Amazon API Gateway.
  • Develop event-driven systems using Amazon EventBridge and SQS.
  • Work with DynamoDB and explore serverless database patterns.
  • Apply security controls using IAM, Amazon Cognito and AWS Secrets Manager.
  • Use structured logging, AWS X-Ray and Amazon CloudWatch for observability.
  • Coordinate workflows with AWS Step Functions.
  • Explore infrastructure as code, automated testing and deployment pipelines.

Practical Learning and Assessment

LSET uses hands-on sessions, interactive teaching and industry mentor support. Practical activities include creating APIs, building a data access layer, securing endpoints and developing serverless workflows.

The published evaluation criteria include 18 coding exercises, 5 assignments, 5 quizzes, a capstone project, group activities and presentations.

This course is intended for learners with prior knowledge of Java and web technologies who want to develop their serverless application development skills.
