Description
The programme begins with computer hardware, introducing learners to the components found in common systems and the principles used to investigate potential faults. Diagnostic approaches, replacement concepts, performance considerations, and peripheral devices are included.
The next stage focuses on software. Learners examine operating system and application issues alongside updates, compatibility, system stability, and preventative maintenance.
Networking lessons introduce the fundamentals of maintaining wired and wireless environments. Topics include connectivity problems, network equipment, monitoring, traffic analysis, resilience, and infrastructure stability.
Security is examined from a maintenance perspective, covering common threats, vulnerabilities, protective software, firewalls, monitoring systems, and approaches to reducing risk.
The course then moves into cloud environments, providing an introduction to cloud-based applications, storage, networking, security, and performance considerations.
Technical responsibilities often involve more than system knowledge, so the programme also introduces project management and professional communication. Learners consider planning, documentation, reporting, customer interaction, presentations, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
The work-based learning section provides theoretical insight into how computer maintenance knowledge may be applied in professional environments. It does not provide an internship or employment placement.
The programme concludes with an online examination covering the material presented throughout the course.
